Top 5 Queenstown Zipline Tours
1. Ziptrek Ecotours Kea 6-Line Tour (for the adventurer)

- Duration: 2.5 – 3 hours
- Cost: $209 NZD per adult / $169 NZD per child
- Starts from: Top of the Skyline Gondola
- Min age: 6 years
- Min/Max weight: 30kgs (66lbs) to 125kg (275lbs)
Have a blast with epic views of Lake Wakatipu on this Ziptrek Ecotours Kea 6-Line Tour. This is one of the best ziplines in New Zealand and my personal favorite.
This tour features 6 lines, including Queenstown’s fastest and longest ziplines, as well as the world’s steepest tree to tree zipline – perfect for thrill-seekers!
After gearing up, you’ll zip from treetop platforms in a stunning forest canopy, experiencing a 300-meter (984-foot) zipline and finishing with the steepest line, reaching speeds of up to 70 kilometers (44 miles) per hour.
Relax and enjoy the ride without worrying about controlling speed or braking, as guides will assist you with launching and landing at each platform.
They will also share local insights and stories throughout the journey. Our guides were awesome, and made the experience all the more memorable.
Feel free to bring your own camera or you can hire a GoPro from Ziptrek Ecotours. They’ll even provide a helmet that has a mount.
The tour starts from the Ziptrek Treehouse at the top of Bob’s Peak, with some of the best views in Queenstown, and ends at the base of the mountain. You can reach the start by taking the Skyline Gondola or hiking the Tiki Trail.
You’ll need to purchase tickets for the gondola separately and allow at least an hour to get up there.
Since you’ll be finishing at the bottom of the mountain, we recommend doing other activities at the top of the gondola, like the luge, in the morning, and booking your zip line tour for the afternoon.
The Tiki Trail is a 2.1-kilometer fairly steep hike through the forest to the top, taking about an hour for most people. The trail starts just off Brecon Street, and is a great free option to reach the zipline starting point.
2. Ziptrek Ecotours Kereru 2-Line Tour (for those short on time)

- Duration: 45 minutes – 1 hour
- Cost: From $119 NZD
- Starts from: Top of Skyline Gondola
- Min age: 6 years
- Min/Max weight: 20kgs (44lbs) to 125kg (275lbs)
The Ziptrek Ecotours Kereru 2-Line Tour is short and sweet but still packs a punch. This is the ideal zipline if you are short on time or just want a taste of ziplining with an extra thrill.
There are two super fun ziplines on this course. After being fitted with your helmet and harness, you’ll zip through the treetops from one treehouse to the next.
The unique thing about this course is the 21-meter drop to the forest floor at the end. It’s kind of like a vertical zipline and definitely adds a twist to the traditional lines.
Afterward, you’ll hike for about 10 minutes up the Tiki Trail back to where you started. Your guides will share interesting stories and insights about the area along the way. Plus you’ll get to see those famous views over Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkable mountain range.
This tour starts and finishes at the Ziptrek Treehouse located at the top of the Skyline Gondola. If taking the gondola, you’ll need to purchase your gondola tickets separately, and don’t forget to factor in the time it will take to get up there.
This was the first Queenstown zipline we tried and had so much fun we wished we had done the longer tour. Luckily we visit Queenstown frequently and were able to do the longer tour on our next visit. Just something to think about if you are struggling to decide.
3. Ziptrek Ecotours Moa 4-Line Tour (perfect for families)

- Duration: 1.5-2 hours
- Cost: From $159 NZD per adult / $139 NZD per child
- Starts from: Top of Skyline Gondola
- Min age: 6 years
- Min/Max weight: no minimum, to 125kg (275lbs)
This Ziptrek Ecotours 4-Line Moa tour is ideal for families and first timers. Even the little ones can go tandem with their guide.
There are 4 zip lines on this course that start slower and lower to the ground, gradually gaining in height, length and speed as you build confidence.
As you zip from treehouse to treehouse, you’ll get to see stunning views across Lake Wakatipu and out to the Remarkables mountain range.
Once you get the hang of it, you’ll be ready to zip down the longest of the four zip lines spanning 240 meters (787 feet) and reaching speeds of up to 50 kilometers (31 miles) per hour, so fun!
You don’t have to worry about controlling your speed or stopping, it’s all done for you. At the end, there is a 10-minute uphill walk to the Ziptrek Treehouse, but nothing too taxing. You can go at your own pace and stop to rest as needed.
Your guides will share interesting insights about the local flora and fauna along the way. And don’t forget to smile for the camera! There’s a number of cameras along the course to capture those action shots.
Like the other Ziptrek Ecotours, you’ll need to make your way to the top of Bob’s Peak and the starting point for your Queenstown zipline tour.
If you take the gondola up, you’ll need to pay for this separately and leave plenty of time, especially during peak times.
Since this one finishes back where you started, you can zipline in the morning and enjoy other activities at the top of the Skyline Gondola such as lunch or the luge afterward.
4. Kawarau Zipride (ideal for groups, families & beginners)

- Duration: 1.5 hours
- Cost: From $160 NZD
- Starts from: Kawarau Bungy Centre
- Min age: 8 years
- Min/Max weight: 30kg (66lbs) to 150kg (330lbs)
The Kawarau Zipride is a cool variation of a zipline where you can choose what position to ride in during the 130-meter (426-foot) zip.
There’s a fully supported seated position for a chill ride where you can take in the stunning views of the Kawarau River and Gorge. Or, if you’re feeling daredevilish, try going superman style, upside down or back to front at speeds of up to 60 kilometers (37 miles) per hour!
This one is especially fun for families and groups because there are three side-by-side ziplines, so six people can ride at the same time. It’s fun racing your friends and trying the different positions to see who can go the fastest.
The ride is pretty short so we recommend getting this package which includes 5 rides. This way you can go multiple times and try the different positions. Alternatively, you can split the rides among your group. Either way, it offers good value.
The Kawarau Zipride is located at the Kawarau Bungy Centre. You may even see bungy jumpers taking the plunge from the same platform.
It’s about a 20-minute drive from Queenstown and there’s plenty of free parking, but if you don’t have wheels, they offer a shuttle service that picks you up and drops you off at The Station Building on the corner of Shotover and Camp Street in central Queenstown.
5. Paradise Ziplines (off the beaten path experience)

- Duration: 3.5 hours
- Cost: From $199 NZD
- Starts from: 13 Mull Street, Glenorchy
- Min age: 10 years
- Min/Max weight: 30kg (66lbs) to 125kg (275lbs)
This one is technically outside of Queenstown in the rural and charming small town of Glenorchy.
It’s a 45 minute drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy on one of the most scenic roads in New Zealand. Plus, Glenorchy is located on the fringe of Mt Aspiring National Park and the ideal place to immerse yourself in nature, so we couldn’t leave this one out.
Surrounded by mountains, pristine alpine streams and beautiful beech forests, ziplining is one of the best things to do in Glenorchy. It’s a great way to see the incredible landscapes from a unique vantage point, and gets you into the wilderness for a more off the beaten path experience.
This 8-line zip line course is suitable for a range of abilities, even beginners. The lines vary in length and height as you wind your way down the gorge, spanning a total of 1 kilometer (3,280 feet).
After a safety gear training and brief uphill walk through forest, the first line launches off a cliff, soaring above the Oxburn Stream, offering incredible views of Mt Aspiring National Park and Paradise, made famous by Lord of the Rings.
On the lower lines, you’ll zip 200 meters through a tree-tunneled slot canyon, otherwise inaccessible to the public, gliding over a waterfall just meters above a beautiful alpine stream.
For the final lines, you’ll be skimming the rapids and following the curves of the canyon, leading to the breathtaking Blue Lagoon.
Your guides will help you every step of the way. In between each line you’ll make your way across suspended bridges through the forest to the next platform, as your guides share insights about the local flora and fauna.
The combination of exhilarating adventure and jaw dropping scenery is almost euphoric, a must-do zipline experience.
Tips for Ziplining in Queenstown
- Book in Advance: Popular ziplining tours can fill up quickly, especially during peak seasons. Reserve your spot ahead of time to ensure availability.
- Check the Weather: Most ziplining tours operate rain or shine, sometimes even snow. Usually operators provide wet weather gear, but you may want to bring your own.
- Dress Appropriately: Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor activities. Layers are a good idea, as temperatures can vary in the mountains.
- Arrive Early: Give yourself plenty of time to check in, get fitted for gear, and attend the safety briefing.
- Listen to Your Guides: Pay attention to the safety instructions and tips provided by your guides to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Bring a Small Camera: Capture the memories! If allowed, bring a small camera or smartphone to take photos. Some tours also offer GoPro rentals for action shots.
- Consider Other Activities: If you’re taking the Skyline Gondola to reach the zipline, plan to enjoy other activities, like the luge or hiking, at the top of the mountain. Be aware that the order you do them in will depend on the tour you take.
- Check Age, Weight and Health Restrictions: Be aware of any age, weight or health restrictions set by the ziplining operator before you book.
Final Thoughts
Ziplining is a fantastic way to enjoy the beautiful outdoor scenery. Spending a few hours having a blast in the alpine forest, laughing with glee, maybe scaring yourself silly just a little bit, and grinning from ear to ear – sounds pretty amazing, doesn’t it!? Whichever of these Queenstown zipline tours you opt for, it could be the highlight of your trip!
Travel Planning Guide
🚗 Where should I book my rental car?
Renting a car is one of the best ways to get around New Zealand. Public transportation can only get you so far, even in the cities. I always rent with Discover Cars, which checks the prices of all major rental car companies, so you get the best rates.
🚐 What about a campervan?
Renting a campervan is a fantastic way to experience the more remote areas of New Zealand. I really like JUCY because they have a big range of vehicles and locations around the country, which offers more flexibility with pick-up and drop-off. I also like Motorhome Republic, which compares all the campervan options available in NZ.
🎟 Where should I book my tours?
Tours are a great way to experience New Zealand’s top attractions while learning about the area and culture through local guides. We always use Viator and Get Your Guide to find the best tours.
🛏 What’s the best way to book my accommodations?
For hotels and vacation rentals, Booking.com or Expedia.com are the best sites. You can also book through TripAdvisor. If you’re considering renting a house instead, try VRBO which often has good deals.
🛩 What’s the best site to buy flights to New Zealand?
For finding the best deals on flights to New Zealand from around the world, I recommend Kayak.com.
